I have added a snake poll to the right sidebar of my blog. Please pop over and check all the statements that apply to you in your local area.
I have had a handful of people email me and tell me that they see snakes quite often. I wrote in my snake challenge that we rarely see snakes so it got me to thinking about how we all have such different environments.
Please take a moment to take the poll so we can see how all of you have experienced snakes in your own backyard or neighborhood.
Thanks so much for you input.

We once found a bullhead snake, I believe that's the correct name. It presents like a rattlesnake but is harmless. Good stuff!
ReplyDeleteIn very early spring we see garter snakes, (sometimes up to 6 or 7 at a time) in our backyard. Later in the spring and into summer we find them along the fence under leaves or weeds. We think the snakes spend the winter hibernating among the roots from an old tree that was removed before we bought the house. And we live in the city!
ReplyDeleteWe found a black snake curled up in our backyard last summer. We were never able to identify it. There are a number of ponds and woods around our neighborhood, even though we live in the city, and we see snakes occasionally.
ReplyDeleteI love polls like this. It is so fun to see the world from others point of view.

Phyllis,
ReplyDeleteYou and a few others made me curious to see how many of us see snakes in our local area. It is very interesting to see how the poll is turning out.
Thanks for the idea.

The only place in NZ where snakes live is in the Zoo, as far as I know... has anyone seen one in the wild here? So I wasn't sure if I should tick "never seen a snake" or "seen quite a few" (in the Zoo!).
ReplyDeleteHow about, we have had to wait inside out apartment while the neighbor boys tried to recapture the garden snake that they brought upstairs, then let get loose in the common hallway.
ReplyDeleteWe also saw the tail end of a snake recently at our favorite camping area. Since there are some poisonous snakes (mamushi) around and this was clearly larger than a garden snake, we didn't get close enough for an id.
