Outdoor Hour Challenge - Wildflowers and Weeds Flower Press

Outdoor Hour Challenge:
A new month of nature study is stretched out in front of us and we will be looking for wildflowers and weeds! As a special follow-up activity, make a flower press with materials you have around the house to preserve your wildflower and weed treasures.

You can find complete instructions in this blog entry:
How to Make a Flower Press
In addition to flowers, you can press leaves in your press. I have started recording the date, flower name, and location on the paper that I press the flower between. This helps me when I take the flowers out of the press and add them to my nature journal. Once you remove the flower from the press, erase or cross out the label and your paper is ready for another flower to press.

    Special Activity:Pressed Flower Vase

This simple are project is fun and simple enough for all ages to participate.
Materials: Glass vase or jar, pressed flowers (dried), Mod Podge, and a paint brush.

Apply a coat of Mod Podge to your vase using the brush. Add dried flowers and another coat of Mod Podge. Allow to dry.

That's it! Such a simple project that uses your pressed flowers in a way that you can display them.

    Getting Started Suggestion:
If you already own the Getting Started ebook, complete Outdoor Hour Challenge #6. Spend your Outdoor Hour Challenge time collecting flowers (where allowed). Press your flowers and then make a collection of them in your nature journal. Make sure to label each flower with the date, flower name, and location where you found the flower. Use the notebook page in the ebook to record the start of your pressed wildflower and weed collection.
